Desktop app

Trial. The desktop app is a prototype, for Windows first (Mac on trial).

The desktop app puts the computer phone in an app of its own, with its icon near the clock. What you see in its window is the same phone as in the browser, with the same screens, and it changes along with the portal. It also brings:

  • incoming calls even with the browser closed: a notification with Answer and Decline, the window brought to the front, the ringtone even when the window is minimized;
  • an icon in the notification area showing the line status and missed calls;
  • clicked numbers (tel: links in a web page, an email or a program) dialed by the phone;
  • launch at sign-in.

It also suits you if you use Firefox, which cannot install the phone as an app.

Install

  1. Download it from the phone opened in the computer’s browser: Status (or My account), Desktop app section, Download for Windows (or Download for Mac). The portal address to paste on first launch is shown just below, with Copy. A link from your administrator works too.
  2. Run the downloaded file. On Windows (its name ends with -setup.exe), it installs for your account only, without administrator rights; while the app is on trial it is not signed: Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”; choose More info, then Run anyway. On a Mac, open the image (.dmg), drag Téléphone to Applications, then, the first time, right-click the app, Open.
  3. On first launch, paste the portal address, the one you use to sign in (for example portal.operator.com), or any portal link received by email, then Continue. The app checks the address and opens the phone.
  4. Sign in as usual (password, company sign-in or passkey), then allow the microphone when asked.

To change the address later: icon menu, Change portal address….

Day to day

  • A call comes in: the window comes to the front. If it was closed, minimized or behind another app, a Windows notification announces it, with Answer and Decline; clicking elsewhere on the notification brings the window back (and answers, unless you unchecked Clicking the notification answers the call in Status). The ringtone is the one chosen in Status.
  • The icon near the clock (Windows sometimes tucks it under the ^ arrow: drag it to the taskbar to keep it in sight) has a green dot when the phone is ready, red if the connection failed, grey otherwise. Its tooltip gives your operator’s name, the line status and the number of missed calls. A click opens the window; a right-click opens the menu: Open, Launch at sign-in, Change portal address…, Quit.
  • Closing the window does not quit the app: it stays near the clock to receive calls. To really close it: Quit in the icon menu.
  • Launch at sign-in: turned on at first setup; the app then starts quietly, icon only. Turn it off in the icon menu or in Status, Desktop app section, which also shows its version.
  • Language: the menu, the tooltip and the call notification follow your account’s language (My account) as soon as the phone is open; before that, the computer’s. A version of the app older than this feature keeps the computer’s language for its menu.

Clicked numbers

For tel: and callto: links to open the phone: Settings, Apps, Default apps, Choose defaults by link type, then TEL (and CALLTO): choose Téléphone (the app’s name). Windows may also ask you on the first clicked number. The number shows in the keypad and the call starts as soon as the line is ready.

Updates

The app updates itself, never during a call. The phone screens follow the portal: nothing to do. If the phone shows Update the desktop app, a feature needs a newer version: restart the app, or ask your administrator for the latest version.

To uninstall it: Settings, Apps, Installed apps, Téléphone, Uninstall.

Trial limits

  • The notification buttons respond while it is on screen; from the Windows notification center, take the call in the phone window.
  • Nothing shows? Settings, System, Notifications: allow Téléphone and turn off Do not disturb (or Focus assist).
  • Mac: on trial, app not signed by Apple. Linux: later.
